Your phone screen just shattered. Your battery barely lasts two hours. Or maybe it took an unexpected swim in the Ionian Sea. The question every phone owner faces at some point is: should I repair it or just buy a new one?
At K2J Tech in Sarandë, we've repaired over 10,000 devices since 2009. Here's our honest, no-nonsense guide to help you make the right decision — and save money in the process.
1. Cracked or Broken Screen
A cracked screen is by far the most common repair we see. The good news? It's almost always worth fixing.
When to repair:
- Your phone is less than 3 years old
- The touch still works (even partially)
- Only the glass is cracked, not the LCD/OLED underneath
- The screen replacement cost is less than 40% of a new phone's price
When to replace:
- The phone is already 4+ years old with other issues
- The repair cost approaches 60%+ of a new device
- You've already replaced the screen before
Pro Tip
Most screen replacements at K2J Tech are completed same-day, often in under 2 hours. We use quality replacement parts and test every repair before handing it back.
2. Water Damage
Water damage is the trickiest issue because the extent of the damage isn't always visible. We've recovered phones that owners had given up on, and we've also seen phones that looked fine but had corroded internals.
Recovery chances are GOOD if:
- You bring the phone to us within 24 hours of the incident
- You turned it off immediately and didn't try to charge it
- The phone was in fresh water (not saltwater)
Recovery is harder when:
- The phone was in saltwater (beach, sea)
- You tried to turn it on or charge it while wet
- More than 48 hours have passed
Important Warning
Do NOT put your phone in rice. This is a myth that can actually make things worse by introducing starch and dust into the ports. Instead, turn it off, pat it dry, and bring it to us immediately.
3. Battery Problems
If your phone dies at 30%, takes forever to charge, or the battery is physically swelling — a replacement is the answer. Battery replacements are one of the most cost-effective repairs available.
Always worth repairing: Battery swaps typically cost a fraction of a new phone and take under an hour. A fresh battery can make a 3-year-old phone feel brand new again.
4. Charging Port Issues
Before panicking about a broken charging port, try cleaning it first. You'd be surprised how much lint and debris accumulates in there. We see this daily — a quick clean solves the problem for free.
If cleaning doesn't help, a charging port replacement is still a very affordable repair that's absolutely worth doing.
5. Software Problems
Phone stuck in a boot loop? Running incredibly slow? Apps constantly crashing? Software issues are almost always fixable and the cheapest type of repair.
- Factory reset solves 90% of software issues
- OS reflash fixes boot loops and corrupted systems
- Storage cleanup dramatically improves speed on full phones
The Decision Framework
Here's a simple rule we share with every customer who walks into K2J Tech:
The 50% Rule
If the repair cost is less than 50% of buying a replacement device, repair it. If it's more than 50%, or if you have multiple issues stacking up, it's time to consider a new device — which we also sell at competitive prices.
